Alexander Donchenko: "Win Elo and play good games"

7. February 2024

Alexander Donchenko

Alexander Donchenko is part of the very strong German men's team in the open tournament. We also asked him our questions.

What personal goals do you have for the Mitropa Cup 2024?

My personal goal is to win Elo and play as many good games as possible.

... and for your German team?

The team's goal is to win the tournament.

Give us an overview of your daily routine during such a tournament!

In chess:
My preparation usually takes place in the morning before the game. After the round I have a quick look at my game, besides that I don't spend much time playing chess.

Questions of nutrition:
I'm not an expert on this, but you should find out through experience what is optimal for good condition during the game. Whether it's three regular meals or a "breakfast" at 1 p.m. is very individual.

Relaxing, sport, free time:
I usually have some free time in the evening to go for a walk, go to the movies or something like that so I can get ready for the morning. Of course, on a day off, I have more time to go running and take a longer trip.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

Not much has been decided yet, but I hope to play for Germany at the Chess Olympiad.

Do you personally associate something with the host city Apolda?

In 2017, I achieved my best result at a German championship so far with a 3rd place in Apolda.

Thank you very much for the interview Alexander!
