For the first time, seniors determine national champions

Premiere as part of the Mitropa Cup: In cooperation with chessXdream the chess club Erfurt organizes the first open championship for seniors. Under the patronage of District Administrator Christiane Schmidt-Rose (CDU) a seven-round tournament in the Swiss system will be played from February 16 to 22 - parallel to the Mitropa Cup in the mornings from 9.30 a.m. The champions will be crowned in the age categories 50+ and 65+. Seniors born in 1974 and older are eligible to start. As of February 6, 59 registrations had been received, the tournament is limited to 160 participants.
ChessXdream is a start-up company for the organization of chess tournaments, trips and events, which was founded last year by Torsten Warnk from Bensheim. His inspiration: to organize player-friendly chess competitions. His immediate goal: to save or revive tournaments. In Apolda, Warnk will act as tournament director of the senior championship.
