Matthias Bluebaum: „I usually skip breakfast“

Matthias Bluebaum

For Matthias Bluebaum, anything other than winning the tournament with the German team would be "quite a disappointment".

What personal goals do you have for the Mitropa Cup 2024?

My main goal is to gain Elo and play good chess.

... and for your German team?

Our team is nominally in first place. Of course, in team competitions with four boards, things can go wrong if the players are not at their best, but anything less than a tournament win would be quite a disappointment from my point of view.

Give us an overview of your daily routine during such a tournament!

In chess:

After the game, I usually do a quick analysis of the game I played, then I start preparing for the next day's game later in the evening, and I finish preparing by noon the next day.

Questions of nutrition:

I probably shouldn't give any tips. In terms of routine, I usually skip breakfast for sleep and then go to lunch and dinner.

Relaxing, sport, free time:

I don't really do any sports during tournaments, usually just a walk in the evening. Relaxation and free time is also important, when I feel like I don't have the energy or desire to prepare, I like to watch something on Netflix.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

To be honest, I don't have too much planned yet.

Do you personally associate something with the host city Apolda?

If I remember correctly, the last time I was in Apolda was for the 50th birthday of the national youth coach Bernd Voekler...

Rasmus Svane, Matthias Bluebaum, Dennis Wagner and Alexander Donchenko in Apolda in 2013 at Bernd Voekler's 50th birthday

Thank you very much for the interview Matthias!
